SFS recruits and trains the next generation of cybersecurity professionals — from security engineers to industrial control system specialists to security managers — for Federal, State, local, and tribal governments.

In return for up to three years of scholarship support, you commit to serve in a cybersecurity role in government for a period equal to your scholarship. Bring what you know, learn what you don't, and do work that protects millions from day one.

Study on Scholarship

Earn your bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in cybersecurity with tuition, fees, an annual stipend, and a professional allowance covered for up to three years.

What does the scholarship cover?

Tuition and education-related fees, plus an academic-year stipend ($27,000 for undergraduates, $37,000 for graduate students) and a professional allowance of $6,000 for the SFS Job Fair, travel, and certifications — for up to three years.

Who is eligible?

U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents enrolled full time in a cybersecurity-focused bachelor's or master's program at a participating institution, or research-based doctoral students.

What is the service commitment?

After graduation, you work for the U.S. Government — or with NSF approval, a State, Local, Tribal, or Territorial government or an FFRDC — in a cybersecurity position, for a period equal to the length of your scholarship.

How do I apply?

Applications go through participating institutions, each with its own selection process. Find your school on the Participating Institutions list and contact the program's principal investigator directly.

Who runs the program?

Scholarships are funded through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation; the program is administered in partnership with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, with hiring support from agencies including CISA.
